Pantone to CMYK gives the four-color process build that approximates a Pantone spot color, with the Delta E between the spot ink and its CMYK simulation, and a clear note on why the final build depends on the press profile.
A Pantone spot color is a single premixed ink; CMYK builds a color from four halftone screens. Many spot colors, especially bright oranges, greens and blues, sit outside the CMYK gamut and can only be approximated. The Delta E shown here tells you how close a standard process simulation gets. Above 5, consider printing the spot ink or adjusting the design.
Different ICC profiles give different builds because presses and papers differ. The build here is a profile-free approximation; ask the printer which profile they use and finalize the separation in your layout software or the Pro press-ready export.
Enter the Pantone code (for example 186 C). The tool returns an approximate CMYK build and the Delta E from the spot color; finalize through the printer's ICC profile.
Because they assume different printing conditions. Pantone's own bridge guides list one build per condition; this tool shows a profile-free approximation and the Pro export applies a chosen ICC profile.
Most fluorescent, metallic and very saturated oranges, greens, purples and blues. The Delta E value flags them.
