What is the rainbow palette generator?

A rainbow palette is a sequence of colors that walks around the hue wheel. This generator builds smooth or stepped rainbow palettes with control over saturation, lightness and the number of stops, for charts, gradients and illustration.

Making a rainbow that reads well

Plain HSL rainbows look uneven: yellow appears far lighter than blue at the same lightness value. Generating in OKLCH evens that out so every hue sits at the same perceived lightness, which matters for data visualization where colors must be comparable. Choose a start and end hue to get a partial rainbow (sunset, ocean) and set stops from 3 to 24.

Rainbow Palette Generator FAQ

What are the colors of the rainbow in HEX?

A common seven-stop set is red #ff0000, orange #ff7f00, yellow #ffff00, green #00ff00, blue #0000ff, indigo #4b0082 and violet #8b00ff. The generator can produce a perceptually even version with any number of stops.

Can I export a rainbow palette as a gradient?

Yes. Send the palette to the Gradient Maker to get CSS or an image.
