Tool · Tailwind palette generator

Tailwind palette generator.

One base color in. A perceptually-uniform 50–950 scale out. Built in OKLCH so the steps look evenly weighted across hues. Tailwind config and CSS variables ready to copy.

What is the tailwind color palette generator?

A Tailwind color generator produces the 50 to 950 shade scale Tailwind CSS uses from a single color, ready to paste into tailwind.config or a v4 @theme block.

How Tailwind color scales are built

Tailwind's default palette places the base color around 500 and steps lighter to 50 and darker to 950 with roughly even perceptual gaps. The generator reproduces that curve in OKLCH, so a custom brand scale sits next to the built-in slate, blue or emerald scales without looking off. Chroma is reduced at the extremes so 50 and 950 stay usable as backgrounds and text.

The output includes HEX by default and OKLCH for Tailwind v4, plus the same scale as CSS variables for non-Tailwind projects.

Tailwind colors reference

The page also lists the default Tailwind color palette with HEX codes for every shade, so a class like bg-sky-500 can be looked up without opening the docs. Click any default shade to load it into the generator and build a matching custom scale.

Tailwind Color Palette Generator FAQ

How do I add a custom color to Tailwind?

Generate the scale here, copy the config snippet, and add it under theme.extend.colors in tailwind.config (v3) or as --color-name-* variables in a @theme block (v4). Classes like bg-brand-500 work immediately.

What is the HEX code for Tailwind's default colors?

The reference table on this page lists every default shade. For example, the default blue-500 is #3b82f6 and slate-900 is #0f172a.

Does the generator support Tailwind v4?

Yes. Switch the output to v4 to get an @theme block with OKLCH values, which is the format Tailwind v4 uses for its own palette.
